What is Civil Engineering?

Civil engineering is an engineering discipline that deals with the planning, design, construction, and repairs of public and private infastructures, which includes roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewerage systems, energy & drinking water, pipelines, structural components of buildings, subways, and railways. Civil engineers work on many complex projects and require many skills to complete them.  They usually specialize in one of several areas:

Construction engineers: The manage, design, and plan construction Projects

Geotechnical engineers: work to make sure that foundations are structually sound for built objects. In addition, they design and plan for slopes, retaining walls, and tunnels.

Structural engineers design and assess major projects, such as buildings, bridges, or dams, to ensure their strength and durability.

Transportation engineers plan, design, operate, and maintain everyday systems, such as streets and highways, but they also work on larger projects, such as airports, ship ports, mass transit systems, and harbors.

Environmental Engineering a professional engineering discipline that uses broad scientific topics like chemistry, biology, ecology, geology, hydraulics, hydrology, microbiology, and mathematics to create solutions that will protect and also improve the health of living organisms, and the environment.
