Basic Math

Order of Operations

Rules that establish the order in which operations take precedence before other operations. It follows the acronym PEMDAS.

When an expressions includes one or more arithmetic operations, we have to follow rules for the order of operations:

  1. First do all operations that lie inside parentheses/brackets.
  2. Next, do any work with exponents or radicals.
  3. Working from left to right, do all multiplication and division.
  4. Finally, working from left to right, do all addition and subtraction.
