Mechatronics: What is a Mechatronics Engineer?

What does a Mechatronics Engineer do?

A Mechatronics Engineer brings together the principles of mechanics, electronics, and computing with the goal of generating a simple, reliable, and economic system.
Often working alongside the Automotive, Aerospace, Aviation, Manufacturing, Oil, and Energy Industries, Mechatronics Engineers are expected to handle a range of tasks, including:

  • Identifying areas within an operation where tasks can be automated and/or integrated.
  • Designing and developing mechatronics devices for use in a consumer or industrial setting.
  • Creating/producing intelligent, computer-driven systems along with controls for use within an operation.
  •  Conducting feasibility studies, modelling and analysis of potential mechatronic solutions.
  • Implementing successful solutions within their broader operation.
  • Troubleshooting problems and issues within existing mechatronics systems and devices.
