The Georgia Teacher Academy for Preparation and Pedagogy (GaTAPP) is a classroom-based teacher training which is option. The education programs program does not replace regular college for teaching; however, individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree or higher but did not complete their teacher education requirements as part of their degree programs has this option. The teacher's candidates are equipped with GaTAPP skills that ensures a reasonable expectation of initial success in their classrooms; therefore, it puts in place a supervised candidateship or induction program that will help them move toward succeeding mastery of teaching.

Metro RESA GaTAPP Application Requirements includes:

  • Induction certificate/waiver
  • Two full years left on their Provisional BT Certificate (formerly IN4T)/Induction Certificate
  • One year and a letter from the system indicating that a waiver will be requested for Year 2
  • Official copies of college transcripts
  • GACE Content Assessment score report
  • GACE Georgia Educator Ethics Certificate of Achievement 
  • Resume
  • Two reference letters that are signed by the source (cannot be a relative)

Application fee of $75 (subject to change)

STEP ONE

Submit all documents electronically to Metro RESA via the online application during the application period. Any applicant documents that are not received via the online application will not be processed.

STEP TWO

  • All components listed in step one must be complete by the applicants
  • Notification Window: Allow four weeks from completed online application submission and receipt of payment
  • Metro RESA will notify applicants who meet the screening requirements from the online application via email to register for a mandatory orientation session
  • Orientation session is required
  • Applicants will learn about the Metro RESA GaTAPP program at this meeting

STEP THREE

Applicants that met the screening requirements from the online application will receive an email from Metro RESA with details about registering and attending the Metro RESA GaTAPP orientation session. 

STEP FOUR

  • Register and pay $650.00 for the Essentials of Effective Teaching class
  • Summer classes 

If not an employed teacher: 

  • Applicants are placed on an eligibility list that is spread throughout Metro RESA’s school systems
  • Applicants are urged to visit local school systems websites to view current vacancies, or visit Teach Georgia for a listing of all available job openings
  • Applicants must secure a teaching job before they enroll in the upcoming GaTAPP cohort
  • The hiring system and the candidate will submit all required documents for assurances and commitments
