Plagiarism is essentially using someone's work and taking credit for it as if it is your own rather it is accidental or purposeful.

Common Types of Plagiarism

There are several common types of Plagiarism which include:

  • Direct Plagiarism: Directly quoting a small portion of a source without citing or putting quotation marks.

Copying and Pasting information directly from an online site into your paper without citing the source. 

  • Self-Plagiarism: using work you already created for other classes or using parts of your own work previously written without putting proper citation or getting permission from all involved including other instructors you submitted the work too.
  • Paraphrasing: rewriting someone's sentence or sentences as your own by just changing minor grammar or words but keeping their main idea and you don't cite the source of the idea.
  • Complete Plagiarism: Completely using another's work and putting your name on it. 
  • Accidental Plagiarism: unintentionally plagiarizing or Improperly citing sources in your paper or misleading or bad citations
  • Mosaic Plagiarism: blending someone's work with your own work
