The Definition of Economics- What is Economics?

Economics is a social science. It is concerned with goods and services, with a focus on the production, distribution, and their consumption. Economics also studies how people (as individuals), businesses, and governments choose to distribute and allocate those resources. The building blocks of Economics are labor and trade.

In Economics, we assume that the actions of human beings is based on rational behavior, looking for the most optimal level benefit/utility. That is the overarching goal, going through the many possible applications of human labor and the many ways to acquire resources, and identifying the methods that will produce the best results.

When you break down Economics, you get Macroeconomics. Microeconomics focuses on individuals and businesses.
