Paraphilic Disorders
Paraphilic disorders are defined as recurrent, intense, sexually arousing fantasies, urges, or behaviors that are distressing or disabling and that involve inanimate objects, children or nonconsenting adults, or suffering or humiliation of oneself or the partner with the potential to cause harm.
According to DSM-5 and Merck Manuals disorders that are categorized under Paraphilic Disorders are:
Frotteuristic disorder: Recurrent and intense sexual arousal from touching or rubbing against a nonconsenting person, as manifested by fantasies, urges, or behaviors causing clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.
Fetishistic disorder: Recurrent, intense sexual arousal from use of an inanimate object or from a very specific focus on a nongenital body part (or parts) that causes significant distress or functional impairment.
Pedophilia: Recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, urges, or behaviors involving prepubescent or young adolescents (usually ≤ 13 years); it is diagnosed only when people are ≥ 16 years and ≥ 5 years older than the child who is the target of the fantasies or behaviors.
Voyeuristic disorder: Involves acting on voyeuristic urges or fantasies with a nonconsenting person or experiencing significant distress or functional impairment because of such urges and impulses.
Transvestic disorder: Recurrent and intense sexual arousal from cross-dressing, which may manifest as fantasies, urges, or behaviors that causes significant distress or significant functional impairment.
Exhibitionism: Achievement of sexual excitement through genital exposure, usually to an unsuspecting stranger. It may also refer to a strong desire to be observed by other people during sexual activity. Involves acting on these urges with a nonconsenting person or experiencing significant distress or functional impairment because of such urges and impulses.
Sexual Masochism disorder: Intentional participation in an activity that involves being humiliated, beaten, bound, or otherwise abused to experience sexual excitement that causes significant distress or significantly impairs functioning.
Sexual Sadism disorder: Infliction of physical or psychological suffering on another person to stimulate sexual excitement and orgasm that causes significant distress or significant functional impairment or is acted on with a nonconsenting person.
